Did Yermin Mercedes Just Retire Out of the Blue?

White Sox rookie, Yermin Mercedes, had a weird social media post last night. Basically saying that “it’s over”.

The post is all in Spanish but per Google it translates to:

First of all I want to thank God for giving my life to the fans that without them I was nothing to my family for understanding me and always supporting Daniel szew for getting ahead, and incidentally apologizing to all those who have offended me. immaturity to the members of the radio, television and press .. to all the teams that participated for not tolerating their decisions to everyone who as a human being I have failed I apologize and in this way I am away from baseball indefinitely ..! God bless you

Mercedes started his career on a torrid pace starting 8-8 while hitting .415 in April.

The White Sox are aware of his post, but did not receive any formal retirement from him. Even they don’t know what is going on.

This is a strange situation as he seemed to have some promise playing the game, but apparently he disagrees and is done.
