Dodgers Swoop in and steal Max Scherzer (and get Trea Turner) from Padres

After Ken Rosenthal reported that the Padres were close to acquiring Max Scherzer from the Nationals, the Los Angeles Dodgers came in at the last minute to up the ante and acquire both Scherzer and Trea Turner.

The Dodgers and Padres are in a heated three team race for the NL West division lead. Currently, the San Fransisco Giants lead the division, 3.0 games ahead of the Dodgers. The Padres are 5.5 games behind the Giants. Both the Dodgers and Padres currently hold playoff positions as the wild card teams, however.

The Dodgers were in need of some reinforcements with the injury to Clayton Kershaw and the offensive struggles of Cody Bellinger.

Scherzer is back to his ace ways and Turner has been hitting .326/.378/.545 with 30 home runs and 33 stolen bases since the beginning of the 2020 season.

This makes the Dodgers the favorites to win the World Series, according to the betting odds (+330).

The Nationals will receive Keibert Ruiz, Josiah Gray, Gerardo Carilla, and Donovan Casey in their end of the deal. Ruiz and Gray are the Dodgers top two prospects and are both Top 100 prospects according to’s list.
