Detroit Tigers slugger, Miguel Cabrera, is making history with every hit. Cabrera now sits at 2,931 hits and 494 home runs on his career. It is very possible that he reaches the 3,000 hit and 500 home run milestones by the end of this season.
Last night Cabrera went 2-4 with 5 RBI and passed Roger Hornsby on the all-time hit list and tied David Ortiz on the all-time RBI list.
Cabrera is obviously not the hitter he was about ten years ago when he was winning MVP awards and the hitting triple crown in 2013. He struggled early in the year, but after an early stint on the injured list, he has hit for contact at least. Cabrera doesn’t have the intimidating power anymore, but since June 1st, Miggy has a .303 batting average.
He is still the fun loving Miggy we are used to. After years of injury, he is not the same player he was when he was young, but he is showing he can provide something, even if it is just as a slap hitter.
Cabrera is very close to these big milestones in his career. How awesome would it be for his 3,000th hit to also be his 500th home run?
