According to multiple MLB insiders, the Washington Nationals and San Diego Padres are closing in on a deal that will send Max Scherzer to Southern California.
Scherzer still has it. Even after turning 37 a few days ago, the National League All Star Game starting pitcher has an ERA of 2.76 this season to go along with his career ERA of 3.19.
The Padres hope to bolster their rotation during the stretch to the playoffs.
They currently sit in third in the NL West, but have a decent grasp on the second NL Wild Card Spot.
