The Montreal Canadiens and the Tampa Bay Lightning began the Stanley Cup Finals on Monday. Tampa is looking to repeat after winning the Cup last season.
On paper, this matchup seemed to heavily favor the Lightning, and that was certainly the case in game one. Tampa defeated the Canadiens by a score of 5-1.
The Lightning out shot Montreal 27-19 and appeared dominant in just about every phase of the game. Tampa was lead by Brayden Point and Nikita Kucherov who each recorded three points.
If Montreal can’t tighten up and Carey Price can’t make the saves like he had previously in the playoffs, this good be a quick series. That being said, if the Canadiens can put this game in the past and come out and win game two, things will be back at square one.
